How to organise a Secret Santa
So, it’s that time of year again and there is so much to think about! So many Christmas presents to buy; cards to write and food to organise and the time just flies by doesn’t it. Fortunately, help is at hand where work is concerned; organise a Secret Santa and you only have to buy one gift for one work colleague. It’s simple, cheap and fun! Okay, here are some ideas to get you started:
1. Decide on your budget and keep it small, money is tight and you don’t want anyone to be out of pocket or too embarrassed to say that they can’t afford to participate. It’s fun for people to use their ingenuity to find a fun/useful gift for a fiver or less.
2. Find out first which people want to be involved rather than assume that everyone will. Write their names onto a list and these can then be transferred onto pieces of paper which are then drawn out at random by the participants.
3. If you work in a big place with lots of staff it will probably be better to departmentalise it and keep each section to no more than fifteen people as if there are too many people involved things can become out of control and difficult to manage.
4. Secrecy is the name of the game! This is all part of the fun and anonymity means that no-one needs to be embarrassed by their choice of gift.
5. Set a clear date for when the exchange will take place and remind people nearer the time as everyone will be busy and they will probably have forgotten all about this. It’s good to set a date as close to Christmas as possible when there is time to relax a little.
6. Make sure that people realise that this is a fun thing meant to ease the Christmas spending budget and then get on and enjoy it.
