The Guinness World Records Book was created by Sir Hugh Beaver who was running the well known Guinness brewery at the time. He got himself into an argument in the pub one night about what the fastest game bird in Europe was. To his dismay, he was unable to look up this fact in any reference books! He began to think about all the bar-fights around the world that had started in the same way- with bizarre wonderings over stupid facts. The Guinness World Records Book was born! Now, if you want to know just how far a human being can be thrown (17.7ft) or the heaviest weight you can pull with your eye sockets (907 pounds –eek!) all can be looked up in the book that chronicles the lot.
