To celebrate, we've made a factfile on one of our Prezzybox idols, Frida Kahlo. Because who's more Mexican and Independent than Frida?

Feast on these five fabulous Frida facts, just some of the reasons we her!

1. A Feminist Icon

She was so proud of her world renowned unibrow and moustache that she had a grooming kit to keep her look in check.

2. The Toughest Of Cookies

During her eventful life, she battled through Polio, heartbreak and 30+ surgeries (some of which due to an incident where she was hit by a bus, leaving her in lifelong pain). She never let her physical limitations get her down, and used her immense artistic talent to express herself. In her own words ‘Feet, why do I need you when I’ve got wings to fly?’

3. Miss Mexico

She was immensely proud of her Mezo-American roots. A dark-skinned, disabled, bisexual woman who couldn’t have been prouder of where she came from and where she was going. She was born and died in the same house, where she was a huge part of the local community.

4. Selfie Queen

Of her collection of 143 paintings, a whopping 55 where self portraits. She had mirrors installed everywhere in her bedroom so she could see her fabulousness from every angle.

5. Pet Lover

Visitors to her house became accustomed with the wide array of animals that kept her company. These included spider monkeys, cats, birds, indigenous hairless dogs and even a deer called Granizo. She was even more pet mad than we are!
